Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World Patch 2.4
I have a big problem with FPS in DS on my comp. The game runs OK (Around 20FPS) as long as I stand still. But when I start moving, it goes down to aroun 1 frame per 5 seconds. Then, when i stop again, it goes up to 20.Anyone else got this problem?Got any suggestions on how to fix it?It`s really annoying since I use about 5 hours just to advance 1 level!I`m using the 6058 drivers, and the OS has just been clean-installed.(I`ve also made a poll, to see how many people that has problems with the framerate ). In dungeon siege its ALL about your processor, memory and HD I get the same fps any resolution. Since its constantly loading the level you MIGHT want to defrag your HD's and dont use that XP defrag, it really doesnt do a good job oh, just read your post again, freshly instelled system, howabout the game. Is it installed on a olded defragged drive?.The game has some FPS problems since everyone want to see 30-60+ on that fps counter and they are making a patch for it, but i can play pretty much max settings and still get ok fps.Just set the shadows to simple atleast on my machine and the leaked 6043's the complex shadows were bugged.
Then if i remember correctly set from the display setup prog in ds to NO T&L, havent tried that myself, but people say that they will see a 5+ fps improvement with that one.Hmm. And try to tweak your memory settings, that will surely help a lot.Thats about it, and dont worry, for some reason DS feels smooth on 15-20fps, start from those, and lets see if they worked.Pe-Te. I looked at the AVault review, and I think he had an Athlon XP 2000+ system with DDR Ram.and his fps are almost identical to mine (perhaps 4 or 5 fps higher), at the same resolution, and same high detail levels (mine may even be higher.max shadows, etc). The thing is, he had a GF4 Ti4600!

Very wierd. My only working theory is that the game 1) benefits from multitexturing, and basically nothing else from most modern GPUs in its current state.more specifically, benefits greatly from doing 3 textures per pass over 2 2) above a certain point, CPU and memory speed doesn't matter, atleast in its current state.Take a good look at my specs as you ponder this. I think I have EAX enabled too.The quote from the AVault reviewer is 'Only on rare occasions did my frame rate exceed 35 fps, usually hovering in the range of 20-25 fps. In crowded towns or in the wilderness with full weather and battle graphics, the frame rate occasionally took dives down into the 13-17 fps range.' This fits my performance currently with a pack mule and 4 chars, and a decent amount of enemies on screen, pretty closely (the lowest I remember seeing so far is 9 fps). Also, it fits my performance in Stonebridge while wandering around all those buildings pretty well.EDIT: Looking at Clockwork's speeds, it seems CPU might matter a bit after all. Maybe the Radeon line just plain 'rox0rs' at this game.
Either that, or the GF4 had aniso at a high level and tanked because of it.but.still.a GF4 Ti4600/128MB + Athlon XP 2000+ w/DDR versus a AIW Radeon/32MB + Athlon TBird(1.37GHz) w/SDR? Oh well, the game works for me, so no sweat. I tried it out myself and I don't really notice any difference. What gave you that idea? I thought T&L looked better than non TL? I have 1024x768 32 Bit with Complex shadows.I don't understand why anyone with a Radeon wouldn't have the resolution available.they don't make 'em with less memory than mine. Also, perhaps this indicates that some features limit resolution? Perhaps the person who said they have 1280x1024 really does, and has a 128MB card or maybe some feature disabled?
I'm also curious as to why some only have 800x600.perhaps you people have antialiasing on?Also, I tried just 'Hardware' instead of 'Hardware TnL', and it was significantly slower for me (3-6 fps less consistently).I am puzzled as to how the TnL on an 8500 could be slower than mine. Check my sig for a comparison of the total system. I run a 'dirty' system too.I leave a bunch of programs running while I play (though only ones necessary for general use). If this helps any, there seems to be an issue with the frame-rate that they are supposedly working on.
Switching from 1024x768 to 1280x960 left me with the same frame-rate as I had before (you have to change the refresh in the.ini file in your 'My DocumentsDungeon Siege' directory, and you'll get an error on starting the game). I wasn't happy with this, so I changed from hardware T&L to just hardware like HappyPills did, and now I'm running around 40-60 at 1280x960.Specs:Athlon XP 1800+ (stock speed)Asus A7V266-E512mb PC2100 DDRRadeon 8500 64mb (stock speed)2x WD 40gb stripedSB Audigy. You can access higher resolutions by adding a command line to the shortcut. Something like C:dungeonsiegeDungeonsiege.exe -'1600x1200' or something.
It IS possible though,I'll do some more looking on the forums and find it again and post back in a few. My system specs are below for the most part cept I'm now running WinXP. I get about 20fps, and 5fps in battles. Its totally unplayable. I cannot play, it doesn't just look bad, but skips ALL over.
I've tried it on 3 machines, all similar specs. Its a known bug, hopefully they fix it. Changing to software T&L helps a bit,I get 5fps more, and can play OK if I'm the only party memeber.sigh.AWESOME game though.just a nasty little bug. Okay, I JUST bought DS, and now I'm back at school. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I've been playing the demo for a couple days. I've got a Radeon 7500, and I just maxed everything out to full. 1024x768x32, full detail.
I get 25-30 fps mostly, and 20 in battles. But the oddity is that putting the res and settings down don't improve it in the slightest. How do you turn on and off TnL? Is in on or off by default in the demo?Anyhow, it's a pretty kickass game - can't wait to get into it.mikeEDIT - my drivers were the most recent official ones as of two days ago. I am not overclocking or tweaking (yet).
