Hey everyone, I'm not entirely sure if I'm posting on the right forum here, so I apologize if this isn't correct.
Okay, so, I have searched and searched to find the answer for this and if it is somewhere then I'd really appreciate the help finding it. Anyhow, I recently merged my CD installed Sims 3 games with Origin so that I could get expansions cheaper and have it easier to play without the discs.
Up until I did this (I can only think of this as being the one change since) I had plenty of package mods like NRAAS and defaults that worked fine. Suddenly though, when I tried to start my game, it would not load, just be stuck on the black screen before the title pops up. I tried multiple things to get it working, because nothing had changed and it had all been fine for ages!
I uninstalled all of my games and custom content and reinstalled them from scratch. I have been tentatively re-downloading custom content since (Sims3 Packs) and the game has been working fine. I even got some non-mod packages to work, such as makeup. The way I got these mods to work without the game not loading at all and crashing my whole computer was by putting the resource file into the packages folder. The thing is, even with NRAAS in the packages folder, this somehow made the game work- just that the mods such as NRAAS and defaults actually did not show up in the game.
So I did an experiment this morning while having been able to happily play the sims in the mean time. I thought 'I really want to get some custom skins because I really enjoyed having those.'
I removed the Mods and Packages folders completely and re-downloaded a fresh version of those folders just with the no intro and no build sparkles and the game loaded with those mods! I got excited and tested to see what would happen if I put some NRAAS only in my folder and then, immediately, the game did not work. So I get rid of the NRAAS and put in the defaults- the game would not work again. Even when I put all of the things such as makeup back in and didn't have NRAAS or defaults, the game still wouldn't load.
After this, I simply put the resource file back into the packages file and the game loaded again.
My biggest frustration is that I have placed the folders exactly where they are supposed to be and done everything right as far as I can tell. I've been looking around and nothing else seems to work. I'm tempted to just suck it up and play my game without mods or skins or sliders, but I really enjoy having those things and it is so frustrating that this is happening and I have no idea why.
If anyone can help me with this, I would be so happy!
